If you're self employed, you're invited to join a range of local members of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) for a roundtable discussion with Nicky Morgan MP as part of the FSBs current campaign 'Think Self Employed', finishing in a networking lunch. The UK has seen huge changes to the world of work in the last decade, one of the biggest shifts has been the rise in the number of people who have decided to strike out on their own.
The FSBs campaign focuses on key issues for the self employed and asks Government to implement a range of measures to support the UKs 4.8 million self employed, who represent 15% of the workforce, and contribute over £270 billion to the UK economy.
This growth has had huge benefits for many and for the wider economy. Helping to drive the record levels of employment and local economic growth, and reducing economic inactivity among those who struggle in traditional, full-time employment.
Despite the benefits of self-employment, those that choose to ‘go it alone’ face a number of challenges which have long been ignored by successive governments. The self-employed enjoy fewer rights and, fundamentally, by setting up in business they face much higher risks than those in employment do. For far too long they been an after-thought in policymaking from Government and all political parties.
Attendees will have the chance to discuss their business and the challenges and benefits of self employment, and help to make a difference to small businesses everywhere by providing real life examples illustrating FSBs asks of government in the runup to the 2018 Budget.
There will be opportunity for social media and video interviews/case studies, involvement in FSBs campaigns and press, as well as networking with a collection of self employed business people.
