ABOUT ABOUT

Are businesses ethical because they want to be - or because they have to be? And does being ethical give a competitive edge or is it an additional cost? This session will explore how ethical policies can help your business to maintain a competitive edge, retain staff, engage stakeholders and build shared relationships with customers

The Co-operative Movement has long-held the view that their business model, that is equitable, fair and just to all - workers, suppliers, customers - gives a competitive edge and in the early days of the Co-operative Movement this was self- evident.  Before the Weights and Measures Acts and other consumer laws made it illegal to sell adulterated food and quantities were measured on dubious scales,  Co-operative Societies grew rapidly by providing an honest offer. Now honesty is enshrined in law, along with equal pay, maternity and paternity pay and a host of employment rights, consumer laws and protection for suppliers, so is it irrelevant to talk about business ethics?

This seminar is for those who want to run their businesses more ethically, or those that already do, and want to network with others who are and share inspirational ideas. The event is open to all but may be of particular interest to those working in the Care sector.

Speakers include an HR specialist from a Co-operative employing over 8500 people, a representative from ACAS and a co-worker from a small business which aims to make profits with a purpose.

This event is sponsored by Community.

Delegates may also be interested in attending Case's other event 'Caring for the Carers - Meeting the Challenges of the Care Sector' which takes place between 2pm - 4pm on the same day, also at Phoenix (must be booked seperately).
