This event is aimed at any business owner or employers who work in the Tourism and Hospitality industry who would be interested in hearing from local leaders about the future of this industry in the Harborough District. It would be a great opportunity for business owners to engage with local leaders by asking questions, discussing issues and sharing possible opportunities.
About the Event
The Tourism and Hospitality sector forms an important part of the Leicester and Leicestershire economy. There are world class attractions and a rich and diverse heritage and cultural offerings. We need to show that there is a need to continue to support and engage with local tourism and hospitality businesses to make sure that they want to carry on growing and developing their business, in order for people to want to visit Leicestershire.
This event will feature a panel of guest speakers who will be discussing and answering questions on the future of tourism in Harborough, you will be able to hear from Alberto Costa MP, Neil O’Brien MP, Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Tourism Executive from Leicestershire Promotions Limited and Cllr Neil Bannister leader of Harborough District Council. Attendees will also have the opportunity to networking with your peers.
This event will be a great way for local businesses to interact with local leaders to share any issues that this industry could be facing, and also share ideas on how to continue to help develop and grow this industry. We will look forward to meeting you on Friday 2nd November.

Cllr Neil Bannister
Cllr Neil Bannister has lived in South Leicestershire since 1992 and has raised his family here. He has contributed to community affairs since that time as a school governor, village hall chairman and a parish councillor. He was elected to Harborough District Council in 2011 and joined the executive committee in 2015. Since 2017, Cllr Bannister has been the Leader of Harborough District Counci
Alberto Costa MP
Alberto Costa has been Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire since 2015 and was re-elected at the 2017 General Election with one of the largest vote shares in the constituency’s history. He is a trained and licensed solicitor, and was previously a member of the House of Commons Justice Select Committee, he is currently Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Rt. Hon David Mundell MP. Alberto lives in South Leicestershire with his wife and two children.
Neil O’Brien MP
Neil O’Brien was elected in 2017 to represent the constituency of Harborough, Oadby and Wigston. Prior to his election, Neil worked at No.10 for the Prime Minister, leading on Industrial Strategy. This followed his time at the Treasury with Chancellor George Osborne, working on initiatives such as the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine. Before moving into Government, Neil was the Director of the influential think-tank, policy exchange.
Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicestershire Promotions Limited.
Martin is Chief Executive of LPL Tourism. He has over 30 years’ experience in tourism and place marketing. On a national level, Martin is a former Chairman and Director of the British Association of Conference Destinations and he helped establish the British Cities Marketing Board and chaired that organisation for a number of years. He was appointed Vice-Chair of Visit England’s Destination Management forum in June 2011. He has highly developed understanding of the dynamics and challenges of managing tourism in destinations and the DMO structure. He is respected figure in the industry and this was recognised in 1997 when he was made a Fellow of the Tourism Society.
